Each student will have one minute to verbally persuade me to not give them a semester final. Students who successfully persuade me will have a 100 entered into the gradebook slot for the spring final. (I would enter an “E” for “excused” but the system software won’t accept that.) Students who do not persuade me will have something less than 100 entered in.
Successful students will demonstrate full knowledge of rhetorical techniques in their presentations. They will have the text of their presentation printed out ahead of time and fully annotated to show how they are manipulating me into not making them take a semester final.
_Presentations may be prerecorded, enhanced with music, etc., though only one person (i.e., the person speaking) will be credited with the presentation. Prerecorded presentations will be played in class the day of the final, just as if the speaker were presenting live. (Consider using Masher, Stupeflix, GoAnimate, Clipgenerator, or WeVideo.)
A 40-minute timed essay (rhetorical analysis) will be provided for students who neglect to or are otherwise unable to complete this assignment.
