Pre-AP English II classes are designed to prepare students to be successful in AP Language and AP Literature classes their junior and senior years of high school. Because these Pre-AP classes involve sophomores, they are also designed to prepare students for success on the STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exams.
AP Language (AP English III) classes focus on the study, interpretation, and creation of rhetoric (the art of speaking and writing effectively/persuasively). Among the goals of the class is the preparation of students to be successful on the year-end AP test (thereby earning college credit). These classes require a significant commitment from students. There will be outside reading and writing assignments, and expectations are high. It is incumbent upon students to be prepared for class every day and to do their best on all assignments. That said, most students who commit to being successful in these classes experience greater success in many areas of their lives, as reading and writing are crucial to most future endeavors. |
