2016-2017 Book List
Students will need to acquire the following texts to read outside of class in order to prepare for in-class discussion and writing. Students are expected to annotate these texts, so if a library book is checked out, Post-It Notes or other “stickies” will be necessary for annotations. Upon request from a parent, e-books are an acceptable option.
10th Grade — Pre-AP English II

6W2: Antigone by Sophocles and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
6W3: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and Anthem* by Ayn Rand

11th Grade — AP English III
Summer: Sin and Syntax by Constance Hale
6W1: The Tempest by William Shakespeare
6W2: "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"* by Jonathan Edwards
6W3: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass
6W4: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
6W5: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
6W6: The Crucible by Arthur Miller
